November 2, 2015 // Karla ♥'s Tavi

Have you ever met someone in person that you have admired or "stalked" through social media?

You either are shocked on how different they are in person or just in shock on how they are the person they display themselves on these various social media platforms.

Well just this past week (Friday to be exact) I met Tavi Gevinson! (SHE WAS HONESTLY THE CUTEST LITTLE SPECK EVER & SUCH A SWEET HEART EXACTLY HOW SHE 'PRESENTS' HERSELF ON S.M)

Tavi is the founder of Rookie Mag and just a huge blog inspo. Rookie Mag contains categories of DIY's, Diary entries, Music, Sex & Love, Style, DIY'S, etc.

My favorite segment within the site is "Ask A Grown Man", where famous 'Male' personas seen on the media platforms answer questions individuals send. Honestly I love how it shows some of these glamorized stars personalities that isn't usually seen through surfaced interviews. Also their intake on 'teen' problems or other life problems is very interesting.
Some of my favorite "Ask A Grown Man" clips:
                     Terry Crews
                     Jimmy Fallon
                     B.J. Novak

Honestly you should check out Rookie to see how awesome it is! I remember someone asking Tavi at the book signing how someone could understand the Rookie community. All she kept repeating was "reading Rookie articles, that's all you have to do to understand, reading." The Rookie community is very genuine on various 'life' topics people face. Topics that you can find relatable or discover for yourself that you too face that issue.

Tavi at the signing directed the idea of 'speech insecurity'. In a instinct I rose my head & had my attention all on her. I honestly thought not many people were insecure about their speech?? It was something I thought I only had an issue with. Not that I let my speech stop me from meeting people or anything, it is always that little knot in the back of my head bothering me every time I speak to someone. The only issue I have with my speech is pronunciation of certain words. I am bilingual so sometimes my spanish 'accent' is very visible when it comes to certain words in english. Sometimes I find it quite embarrassing to even talk??? I just stop my sentence half way or don't even finish my thought because I become embarrassed.

It honestly does suck that embarrassment is my first emotion towards it :( I love that I am a Chicana & the Mexican culture in general so it's just all very confusing & sucky to even think that way blahhhh.

Either way.. I guess that's one example of how Rookie is awesome because I am a part of a community that directs issues without romanticizing them.

SO CHECK OUT ROOKIE!
                                                                        Much love,
                                                                              Karla Yesenia López
